Confidence + Vulnerabilty Releases Powerful Art
Our 2026 lineup holds many highly anticipated artist workshops. Meet Jason Hackenwerth, a renouned and versatile multi-disciplinary artist who dives into painting, sculpture, and installation art. His incredible sculptures and paintings have been showcased in galleries and museums worldwide, including prestigious spots like the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the National Museums Scotland. Jason earned his MFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2010, following a Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from Webster University in 1997. His work has caught the attention of major publications like The New York Times, Art In America, and Sculpture Magazine, just to name a few. He’s also had the honor of receiving the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2011, along with two Creative Pinellas Professional Artist Grants and recognition as a Palladium Theater Creative Fellow.
Currently, Jason calls St. Petersburg, FL, his home and studio and pushing his work to new heights while examining and wrestling the wild range of emotional demands of intentional and dedicated parenting his twin boys. He puts the every emotion one can feel day to day into his work and it is truly what makes it unique and compelling..
"My approach is typically a kind of disruption of the surface or, maybe more accurately, a series of disruptions that become layers of marks, different lines, shapes, and varying weights and thickness. When I'm working, I'm not thinking, but rather letting go of thought and just getting the brush moving, allowing the mark making to be spontaneous and intuitive."
In May 2026 twelve honored participants will dive into his dynamic mark-making techniques that emphasize immediacy and intensity. Jason not only explores the aethestics but teaches how to really look and really see as an artist. Some of the creative elements he examines are using words on the canvas to captivate the audience, he plays with layering to create unexpected metaphors and narratives, and employs wiping and rubbing techniques to uncover hidden beauty and strength.
In this fascinating interview from Art Docs TV, Hackenwerth talks about the greatest continual challenge as a sucessful artist is really just managing self doubt. He encourages artists to take the confidence and vulnerabitly they need to make powerful work. This workshop will help you gain the courage and confidence you need to push your practice to new heights and make work that matters and truly stands out, breaking from the ordinary and unleashing your fullest creative expression.
