Next week we warmly welcome Judith Kruger to Willow Pond for a unique 5-day workshop; ABSTRACT ALCHEMY - BLACK, WHITE AND WARM METALLICS

Kruger is a renowned American, visual artist whose multidisciplinary work addresses Human-Environment connectivity and their shared vulnerabilities. These arcane processes have been employed for thousands of years on cave walls, Asian scrolls, and aboriginal works. We will begin diving in and comparing these remarkable examples of ancient works and techniques that remain relevant today.

In this workshop students will use painting and collage techniques to cultivate individualized expression in mixed media. Abstractions and realists of all skill levels will reinterpret nature’s deep imagery and essence employing matter from nature itself and within a limited earthy palette.

Kruger sustains a non-toxic studio practice and in her artist statement she writes

“Expanding arcane methodologies that have been perfected in ancient cultures for thousands of years, derived from the environment itself, is, in and of itself, cathartic. It is my best way to inwardly experience and outwardly suggest hope for a renewed future: one that values the importance of earth and climate care, human mindfulness, female agency and well-being.”

Kruger will instruct how to make our own paint, ink, gesso from inorganic and organic sources including pine soot, tree resin, insect, shells, and earth minerals. This course offers an opportunity to learn the process of metallic leafing and alchemic oxidation techniques will be introduced for warmth and depth. This meaningful, process-driven, ecological work truly nurtures the heart and spirit! This will be a restorative and reflective workshop as we transition to autumn and our last workshop of the year!
