Reflections from the Pond
Late summer views at the pond, 2025
My husband Jean and I came to this property we named Willow Pond in 2005 and fell in love with it upon seeing it. For me, there was a quality that reminded me of my South African roots. It felt comforting and familiar, despite being 10,000 miles and an ocean away from where I grew up. The pond has a magical draw to it and quickly became a place to reflect and enjoy the many seasons we have spent here. From morning meditations, to sipping evening rosé and enjoying a reprieve, there is so much beauty in pausing to take in the splendor among trees and near the water. Our plein air watercolor and sketching workshops have gathered around this pond to make art and others have gathered in suits and dresses to attend an occasional small wedding ceremony. One of the best views on the property can be found when the pond mirrors the sky above and the clouds are captured by the water. Nature is always shifting, speaking softly and beckoning renewal. Every spring, summer, fall and winter the pond takes on a new personality and inspires a shift in perspective.
