Two Years in and Finding Our Flow
Behind the scenes, views at dusk from the red barn.
Between hosting each unique workshop at Willow Pond, there is much to be done behind the scenes. Firstly, there is a significant amount of planning. Organizing workshops year-round involves many details, from preparing the space to all the materials and guest accommodations. All this ensures that each artist, instructor, and attendee has a meaningful experience, so balancing the needs and skills of a diverse array of guests, artists, and various disciplines becomes crucial. Did I mention the meals? We eat REALLY well here.
As we round out the second year of Willow Pond SLO, this artist's refuge has begun to find its rhythm and flow. Creating a series of paintings from evolving concepts during an industrious time spent in the studio is a similar process, and it’s quite a relief to pause and recognize the theme and developing flow.
Ultimately, the joy of witnessing artists flourish, connect, and produce meaningful work makes all the behind-the-scenes efforts worth it. It’s about creating a sanctuary for creativity—a temporary home where artists can explore, experiment, and express themselves freely.
As midsummer shifts into fall, we will host two more gloriously different workshops at the Pond. EXPLORING ABSTRACTION with Andrea Wedell, whose painting workshop teaches the technique of BUILDING RICH SURFACES, creating a SIGNATURE VISUAL VOICE. And in September, we will host artist Judith Kruger in her workshop titled ABSTRACT ALCHEMY - BLACK, WHITE AND WARM METALLICS, which teaches the ancient process of METALIC LEAFING and ALCHEMIC OXIDATION techniques, and using a limited earthy palette.
Overall, there is never a dull moment here at the pond year-round between the necessary recuperation, independent residencies, and maintaining Carol's painting schedule. We look forward to sharing more exciting details about all the upcoming workshops already on the roster for 2026!
